First, brilliant article, as ever.

This message reminds me of a German proverb: chasing the devil with beelzebub (when replacing the internal combustion engine with battery-electric drive train).

Some simpler remediation exists with possibly higher gains: avoiding the need for mobility in the first place, for instance but not limited to urban planning, i.e. reducing the total number of miles driven. @Edward Leigh has been working on that for a while in the UK.

Unfortunately, most incumbents prefer GDP increasing measures.
