Many thanks Enrique for yet another succinct article on the matter. As an engineer, I can quite relate to your final assertion "Stop burning things". Combustion always sounds like a last resort and is not very efficient indeed.

Talking of efficiency, I wonder if you, or somebody else, has compiled an energy/power flow diagram for various scenarios, from a photovoltaic system to mechanical energy in the car, for instance but not limited to:

- electricity over grid to charger into battery, then inverter and motor as for an EV,

- hydrolysis, CO2 capture, syngas production, e-fuel synthesis, distribution system, and combustion.

It would be interesting to see what the overall efficiency is, power out / power in.
