Nice article; perhaps you are also aware of Tim Jackson's Prosperity Without Growth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosperity_Without_Growth), which I found very insightful myself.

As an engineer I would add: any optimisation of a process will yield a result depending on the metrics employed. GDP is perhaps not the best metric for economics. Let's hope that mankind can adopt better ones as you pointed out.
