Thanks you very much for this well-researched and well written article. Well said, electrification of cars alone is not the solution to address climate change, let alone public health. And since you mention Cambridge, UK, the city has despite all the bicycles still a lot to learn from The Netherlands to get to a people-centred and bike friendly city. Double decker buses and too many cars, in particular SUVs, are competing for space in narrow streets in the city.

Above all, however, personal mobility has to be questioned, then addressed foremost though urban planning (allowing the avoidance of locomotion), and failing that, through multi-modal transport solutions, including walking, cycling and most importantly shared forms of transport (part of which may and will be autonomous); public means of transport such as trains and electric buses should play a greater role, too.
